• Challenge – When one finds him/herself in a situation where there is a behavior or comment from others that makes you feel uncomfortable, uneasy, frustrated, or reactive to the point that you choose to respond in a way that could be destructive to your relationship with the group. 
  • Outcome – Insight into how to better self-manage our response to emotions in a moment of ‘pressure’ – either self or externally stimulated.
  • The ability of a facilitator to build and maintain a positive level of influence with a group involves 3 factors. 
    • Pathos – Passion / heart (the focus of this tip)
    • Ethos – Credibility / ethical
    • Logos – Logical / reasonable
  • Self-managing our ‘reactions’ can only occur if we are “intentional, disciplined, and practice self-control”. (Dr. Larry Little)
  • Our choices of how we react have a direct influence on our relationship with the group.
  • Self-management involves controlling our emotions which influence our behavior.
  • It’s a choice … ‘pause for the cause’.
